Halfass

I will meet a human halfway but please don’t tell me to live halfass.

For the humans who hunger for belonging, I will lend you an ounce of empathy for feeling that way and a liter of company whenever you need. Just don’t tell me to tame my emotional presence when you’re satiable since it is terrifyingly intense.

For the humans whose minds are unstoppably roaming, I will space out or sit comfortably in silence with you until you decide to unknot the tangled thread of thoughts. Just don’t mistake the non-action as non-caring, being silent as being cold hearted.

For the humans who yearn for genuine connections yet are too scared to open up, I will pull out all the strength I have to hurdle over your fences. Just don’t tell me that I’m so naive to invest when knowing that ‘nothing’ or unintentioned cuts are everything I can get after all.

I don’t halfass strike a conversation. I don’t halfass offer company. I don’t halfass care. I don’t halfass live and love. On this colourful canvas of life, the only life you have, 101% effort in every little detail is so underestimated. Because that is how you program yourself to do the next big thing. ‘Follow through’, I am told, drop that gigantic stone into the ocean, and be readily amazed by what the waves carry when they ripple back.
